Abstract

Imam Shatibi is an eminent Muslim theologian and jurist of eighth century after Hijra. His everlasting book Al- Muafqat on the principles of Shariah is one of primary sources in its field from his era to current age. This unique book contains diversity of subjects and methodologies. The book is also significant as Objectives of Shariah have been discussed in a new paradigm very first time in the field of Islamic jurisprudence. Shatibi has proved mostly his standpoint with arguments from last book of Allah; the Quran. The book is divided into five portions. Fourth portion is written on Sources of Shariah that contains discussions upon the Quran and Sunnah. While describing the first source (Al-Qura’n), Imam Shatibi elucidated some important discussions to understand the meaning of Qur’ansuch as Causes of Revelation, Abrogation in Qur’an and Explicit and implicit Meaning of The Qur’an. The article has been written to analyze Shatibi’s view about these particular Quranic Sciences.
