The status of Miscarriage in Islamic Law Before and After the Nafk

Abstract

Unfortunately abortion has become an epidemic in the modern world. The following article discusses number of issues pertaining to abortion, such as the stages of development of fetus in the duration of 9 months in a mother’s womb; time when the soul is infused into the body constituting the unified ‘I’ (Nafs); respective details as part of the Islamic sources (Qur’ān & Sunnah) and the opinions of the leading Islamic Scholarship; opinions of Islamic Jurists on the abortion before and after infusion of soul in the body and their respective evidences; and the preferable opinion according to the evidences provided.
