Standard-Based Teachers Evaluation: Analysis of Teachers’ Knowledge about the Assessment of Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the teachers’ knowledge about students’ assessment based on National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPSTs) developed by the Ministry of Education, Government of Pakistan. Data was collected from a sample of 1015 respondents through an objective type test. Results indicate that the knowledge of 244 (30%) teachers was at an excellent, very good, and good level while 771 (70%) teachers’ knowledge was fair, satisfactory, or below 33%. It shows a poor situation of teachers’ knowledge about students’ assessment and suggests relevant pre-service and in-service training as well as certain remedial measures for teachers’ education programs under the mechanism provided by NPSTs to ensure the quality teaching in the region.
