The Issue of Possession: Zakat and Contemporary Elucidations

Abstract

In the Holy Quran, the obligation of Zakat is described in short but the headings of prodigal of Zakat are explained in brief. Certainly, regarding the prodigal of Zakat, there is a difference of opinions on a topic that is titled "Possession of Zakat". This is one of the burning issue among the jurisprudents, Ulemas and contemporary scholars. So we can elaborate it as a whole in two categories. The majority of the jurisprudents, Ulemas and contemporary scholars believe that there is a compulsory of possession of Zakat in eight prodigal of Zakat. In other category, there are two further opinions, some religious experts are not convinced of the absolute possession of Zakat and some others claim that the first four prodigals of Zakat need procession but the later four do not. It is concluded that the stance of the majority of jurisprudents seems meticulous and distinguished.
