The Science of the Causes of Revelation: A comparative Study of the Thoughts of Maulana Islahi General Exegetes

Abstract

The Holy Quran is the embodiment of guidance and Tafseer is always a lighthouse for further understanding and clarity. Likewise, for correct Tafseer “Asbab-e-Nazool” are essential to be considered. Unlike many religious scholars, Maulana Ameen Ahsan Islahi considers “Asbab-e-Nazool” a barrier in “Nazm-e-Quran”, and he does not seek  help from “Asbab-e-Nazool” for the act of Tafseer. It seems, as in this case, that treasure of knowledge regarding “Asbab-e-Nazool” may be lost. Ialahi’s concept, therefore, needs to be revised. Unlike Maulana Islahi, most of the Tafseer Scholars,  consider “Asbab-e-Nazool” essentially valuable. Some of  them also use “Asbab-e-Nazool” excessively,  even if Tafseer does not require it, and this idea is, also, in need to be revised.Thus, for the sake of correct Tafseer, authentic “Asbab-e-Nazool” should be kept into consideration, so that the message of the holy Quran may be delivered with clarity.
