The Thoughtful Sources of the Idea of Power of Allama Muhammad Iqbal

Abstract

Muslim Ummah generally and Muslims of India particularly, until the beginning of 20th century,   were under the influence of an escapist view of Religion.Iqbal expressed his disappointment on Muslims’ life style and intellectual slavery. Iqbal criticized the religious escapism of Muslims and associated religion with power. He was of the view that religion without power is mere intoxication. Iqbal's concept of self-respect (khudi) is actually the extension of his concept of power and a believer (Banda e momin) is the personification of his concept of power. His concept of power had also a strong influence on his vision of Islam. Iqbal for the first time in Muslim Ummah introduced the significance of the concept of power in the domain of religious thought. This research paper will explore the intellectual foundations of Iqbals concept of power.
