A Critical Analysis of the Important Topics in Books on Proofs of Prophethood Written in the Reign of Banu Abbas

Abstract

Venerable Prophets were a cut above the rest of humankind due to their superior knowledge and gnosis, purity and purity, nature and character. Allah raised them for guiding and directing people in every era of human history. The Prophets were endowed with miraculous gifts and manifest signs so as to establish their Prophethood beyond a shadow of a doubt. In order to reinforce sound belief in Prophethood and Messengership, Muslim savants produced works of great merit in the early period of the reign of Banu Abbas. They, the Muslims scholars and philosophers, put forward logical and legal arguments in their treatises to buttress the Islamic belief in Prophets. The books on proofs of Messengership dwelled on various topics such as an introduction to Islamic scholastic theology, a critical analysis of the objections of Greek and Roman philosophers and their repudiation, the classification of miracles, the Prophet’s Night Journey and Ascension into Heaven, the Prophet’s splitting of chest by the Archangel, the splitting of the moon, a mention of the Prophet’s predictions, the predictions of the Messengers prior to the final Prophet, the inimitability of the Qur’an and miracles pertaining to wars in the epoch of the final Prophet (ﷺ).
