Religious and Educational Rights of Prisoners: Special Analysis of Jails in South Punjab in the light of Islamic Teachings

Abstract

Imprisonment is the most common way of punishment in current era for various crimes. Imprisonment is also used as tool for custody of accused during trial. In various crimes, and other issues very first step is made to eliminate the freedom of a person, though in some cases the accused released from jail after some time. Due to this eliminating of freedom different rights of accused impaired like religious and educational rights. In Islamic teachings these rights should be provided during imprisonment so that when the prisoner leaves the prison, he can become a useful member of society. These rights not only written in Pakistan prison rules but also written in united nations standard minimum rules for prisoners. But the fact is that after releasing from the prison the person behavior shows no improvement and the objectives of such rights cannot be witness in society. That why the need was felt to surveyed in prison. In this article the analytical study is presented which addressed that in jails of south Punjab to which extant religious and educational rights are providing to the prisoners. So, they contribute in society after getting their freedom.
