Rules and Regulations regarding the use of Najis and its Practical Application in Halāl Industry

Abstract

Owing to the increasing population, the demand for edibles, beverages, garments, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and other utility items is continuously growing. The advancement of science and technology is fulfilling this growing demand. It is also a fact that most of the ḥalāl industry is being run by non-Muslims. On the other hand, a majority of Muslims is living in non-Muslim countries while Muslim countries import products and ingredients from non-Muslim countries on a large scale. Being oblivious of the Standards of Ḥalāl (permissible) and Ḥarām (impermissible), both kinds of ingredients are being used in these products. So, most of these products are either Ḥarām or Mushtabah (doubtful) because of the filthy ingredients. This is the need of the hour that the Sharī’ah limits of filthiness (Nijāsat) usage must be practically implemented in the Ḥalāl industry after proper research in this regard. Moreover, the purity and filthiness of ingredients of products derived from animals, plants, inorganic matters and their compounds, and Sharī’ah rule regarding filthy ingredients must be explicitly explained in the light of Sharī’ah, modern standards and industrial experience.
